MY APPROACH

life
Psychotherapists work from a variety of orientations , based on their training and belief systems. My orientation is Depth Psychotherapy , a tradition which includes psychodynamic as well as Jungian psychology.

Essentially this approach focuses on the unconscious, and on the power of early experiences to shape our lives and personalities. In psychodynamic psychotherapy we tune in to your inner world – your depths – with the goal of growing your capacity to live your life with more awareness and connection to your own deeper feelings and motivations.

My Jungian lens adds another level of attention – to soul and spirit , to image and dream , and all that connects us in surprising ways to “the invisible world” beyond the rational mind.

These perspectives, at the center of my work as a therapist, embody the values and the personal philosophy I have developed to guide my own life over many years. It is my hope that this website will give you lots of helpful further information about my therapeutic approach and its foundations.

Apart from philosophy and approach, the most powerful healing agent of therapy is the therapist-client relationship. This is why a therapist’s orientation may matter less than the synergy that comes about as therapist and client meet and work together. That relationship is the key to a successful and rewarding therapy.

“In the end, psychotherapy is a very personal business. If you need brain surgery, it doesn’t really matter if you like your surgeon as long as s/he is skilled and competent. But in therapy, skill and competence are necessary but not enough; personal fit, more than almost anything, can make the therapy – or break it.”
RICHARD A. FRIEDMAN, PROFESSOR OF PSYCHIATRY AT WEILL CORNELL MEDICAL COLLEGE.
